Last weekend Clonmel Competed at the first full status regatta since the limited lifting of Covid restrictions.
We went with a small team to the Leitrim event with its 8 lane course, the only 8 lane course in the country.
There was a large entry from around the country for this event.
We entered the junior men’s single scull and junior men’s double scull event.
The weather was glorious with temperatures hitting 28 degrees.
First up was Donnacha Keeley in the Men’s Junior 18 single with only two to qualify to the final. He won his heat and then 4 hours later went out and won the final in fine form. A big win for Donnacha.
In the men’s Junior double scull Donnacha teamed up with James Hurley, their first big regatta in a double and only their second ever regatta in this boat. In the first heat in the afternoon session there was four to qualify. Their instruction was to qualify and save energy for the final. However, the lads powered home comfortably to win their heat. The final was then much later in the day and in the final the lads blitzed their way down the course winning comfortably in the end. A great day for all and their parents who made the trip up to Mohill to see the lads in action.
